Investor-State Mediator Training with ICSID, ECT, and CEDR

Nisanur Hekimoğlu, as a legal expert at the Investment Office of the Republic of Türkiye, successfully completed the Investor-State Mediator Training organized by ICSID, ECT, and CEDR between March 12-16, 2022. This intensive three-day program provided comprehensive training on the theory, process, and essential skills required for mediating investor-state disputes.

The training addressed the growing role of mediation in resolving investment disputes, particularly in light of recent global developments such as the ICSID Investor-State Mediation Rules, the increasing inclusion of mediation provisions in investment treaties, and the entry into force of the Singapore Convention on Mediation in 2020.

The program followed a practice-based approach, guiding participants through a five-phase mediation framework, covering:

• Preparation and mediator opening,
• Exploration techniques and active listening skills,
• Bargaining and negotiation strategies,
• Managing offers and dealing with deadlocks,
• Concluding the mediation process effectively.

Throughout the training, participants received coaching and expert feedback from highly experienced mediators and dispute resolution professionals from ICSID, ECT, and CEDR, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.
