Nisanur Hekimoğlu
Nisanur is a legal professional specialising in foreign direct investment law, contract law, and commercial and corporate law, with a particular emphasis on international investment and commercial arbitration within the construction and energy sectors. Her expertise also extends to compliance and sanctions.
During her career, Nisanur served as legal expert at the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye. In this capacity, she delivered comprehensive legal, advisory and mediatory services to multinational investors, addressing a range of legal inquiries, including protection mechanisms for foreign investors at both the international and domestic levels, available corporate structures in Türkiye, processes related to the incorporation of companies, procedural matters before consulates, and tax and regulatory structures applicable to investors. At the Investment Office, Nisanur played a pivotal role in leading after-care investment services, with a specific focus on regulated sectors such as life sciences (pharma and medical devices), defense. Her contributions extended to encompass services related to the renewable energy sector. Additionally, she managed client check and screening mechanisms, professionally handling sanctions and compliance matters to facilitate investment processes. Nisanur also defacto provided assistance in pending arbitration cases against Türkiye before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Her early legal experience was cultivated under the supervision of Prof. Cemal Şanlı, a prominent scholar of private law in Türkiye. Nisanur's professional journey includes active participation in legal teams representing the Republic of Türkiye in investment arbitration cases before ICSID. Furthermore, she worked on commercial arbitration cases before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
Nisanur's expertise extends to serving as the tribunal's secretary for gas pricing disputes and construction disputes administered under the rules of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Istanbul Arbitration Centre (ISTAC), and local arbitration rules.
She holds an LLM degree in International Dispute Resolution and Economic Law from Queen Mary University of London, with her dissertation focusing on substantive protection mechanisms in bilateral investment treaties under the supervision of Prof. Loukas Mistelis. She completed her academic studies under supervision of Prof. Ali Yeşilırmak. She also successfully completed the Investor-State Mediation Training, co-organised by ICSID and the ECT in 2023.
Currently a partner at N&H Law Firm, Nisanur is an arbitration practitioner providing legal and advisory services to clients in their commercial practices in Türkiye and worldwide. Her targeted businesses for providing services include the construction and manufacturing sectors. She is also working as Subject Matter Executive at PwC Türkiye.
She is diligently pursuing the path to qualify as a solicitor in the United Kingdom. She is fluent in English and Turkish.
